Speaking after United’s penalty shoot-out win over AC Milan on Saturday, Solskjaer confirmed Maguire is in contention to make his debut for the club against Chelsea next weekend.
“Hopefully the last little details will be in place and hopefully we can announce something soon,” Solskjaer said of the Maguire deal. “Let’s get the last details over the line but yeah, he’s played a few games over the summer so we’ll have to assess him if and when.”
Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers described Maguire as a ‘special player’ after the agreement for the player’s transfer was struck.
“I think it’s an incredible piece of business,” Rodgers said. “He’s a top-class player, a great man as well. I’ve been involved in a number of these types of scenarios, where things are said to manufacture a deal, and this is a guy who knows there has been interest through the summer and he’s been super professional.”
Maguire will become Solskjaer’s third signing of the summer, following the captures of Daniel James from Swansea City and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.
